BASEBALL
c Cal State Northridge 9, Hawaii 4: Josh Goossen-Brown drove in three runs, and Cal State Northridge topped Hawaii on Saturday night in Honolulu.
Goossen-Brown had three hits including a double as CSUN (21-17 overall, 7-4 in Big West play) used a four-run third inning to take the lead for good. His RBI infield single in the third gave Northridge a 3-2 lead, and he helped ice the game with a two-run single in the sixth to stretch the lead to 8-3.
Chester Pak went 3-for-5, Nate Ring and Nicolas Osuna went 2-for-5, and Alexis Mercaod went 2-for-4 as Northridge pounded out 14 hits.
Calvin Copping (4-3) pitched 5 2/3 innings to get the win. He allowed four runs on four hits and three walks, and he struck out two. DJ Milam pitched 1 1/3 innings to earn his first save of the season.
Kalei Hanawahine led Hawaii (8-26, 3-8) at the plate. He went 3-for-3 with two RBIs. Piikea Kutamura went 2-for-3 with one RBI.
Warrior starter Matt Cooper (2-5) took the loss. He allowed seven runs on 10 hits over 5 1/3 innings. He walked one and struck out four.

SOFTBALL
c Hawaii 2, Cal Poly 1: Jessica Iwata had a pair of RBI singles, and Kaia Parnaby made them stand up as Hawaii completed a three-game sweep on Saturday in San Luis Obispo, Calif.
Iwata’s second RBI single came in the third inning, a two-out single to score Kelly Majam from second, broke a 1-1 tie and provided the winning margin. Overall, Iwata led the Rainbow Wahine (37-8 overall, 14-1 in Big West Conference) at the plate. She went 3-for-3.
Parnaby (34-4) scattered four hits over seven innings for the win. She allowed one run, walked one and struck out three.
Cal Poly fell to 18-29-1 overall and 7-11 in conference play. Chloe Wurst (10-14) gave up seven hits over seven innings and took the loss. She walked two and struck out three.

MEN’S VOLLEYBALL
c BYU def. Hawaii 25-19, 20-25, 22-25, 25-12, 15-13: The University of Hawaii men’s volleyball team saw its season come to an end with a questionable call on match point in the quarterfinals of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Tournament. An apparent UH point was reversed, giving top-seeded BYU a come-from-behind, five-set victory Saturday in Provo, Utah.
With the Cougars (23-4) holding match point at 14-13 in the fifth set, the referees ruled UH middle blocker Nick West went under the net after a BYU kill attempt, which was dug up by the Warriors. No call was initially made, and UH’s Jace Olsen ended the point with a kill. However, following the point, the down referee conferred with the up referee, and the point was changed, giving BYU the victory. Replays showed West’s left foot crossed the centerline.
The Warriors saw their season come to an end after a run into the postseason. UH finished 11-17.
Without two of its top players in the starting rotation for the second straight week, UH head coach Charlie Wade tinkered with his lineup and it worked for most of the match. Middle blocker Taylor Averill moved to outside hitter and the sophomore tallied a career-high 16 kills on .393 hitting. He along with opposite Brook Sedore (18 kills) combined for 34 of the team’s kills.
Olsen, playing in place of regular starters JP Marks (eligibility) and Sinisa Zarkovic (foot), finished with nine kills and three aces, while middle blocker Davis Holt added eight kills hitting .318. UH finished the match hitting .319 as a team.
BYU was led by Ben Patch’s match-high 25 kills on .465. The Warriors held MPSF Player of the Year Taylor Sander in check, as the junior finished with 13 kills hitting .226. The Cougars hit .369 and tallied 9.5 team blocks.
