HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. — Kevin Streelman looks ready to make contending at PGA Tour events a habit, while Brandt Snedeker was poised for an early exit at the RBC Heritage in the rain-delayed second round Friday.

Streelman, who won his first tour title last month at the Tampa Bay Championships, shot a 1-under 70 before the wind picked up at Harbour Town Golf Links. He was tied at 6 under with Charley Hoffman and 34-year-old rookie Steve LeBrun.

Hoffman, like Streelman, followed an opening 66 with a 70. LeBrun shot his second straight 68.

Red Sox, Bruins postpone games during manhunt

BOSTON — The Red Sox and Bruins postponed their games on Friday night while authorities searched for a suspect in the Boston Marathon bombings.

No makeup date was announced for the opener of the Red Sox three-game series against the Kansas City Royals scheduled for Friday night at Fenway Park. The Bruins game against the Pittsburgh Penguins at TD Garden was rescheduled for today at 6:30 a.m.

The bombings near the marathon finish line on Monday killed three people and wounded more than 180. Police identified two suspects. One was killed during a shootout with police and the other was caught after a massive manhunt Friday that virtually shut down the city and some suburbs.

Kenseth qualifies on
pole at Kansas Speedway

KANSAS CITY, Kan. — Matt Kenseth did his best Friday to erase his reputation as a poor qualifier.

Kenseth rolled to the pole for Sunday’s race at Kansas Speedway, setting a track qualifying record of 191.864 mph in cold, windy conditions to bump Carl Edwards out of the top spot and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. into the second row.

“We didn’t think we had a chance,” Kenseth said. “It’s unexpected, and it’s one of the fastest tracks of the year. Felt great to go out late and jump over the other guys.”

Kenseth will be starting his 480th Sprint Cup race this weekend, but the 2005 series champion has only qualified first nine times — one of them came at Kansas in 2005.

Edwards will be starting on the front row for the first time at Kansas after qualifying with a lap of 191.748. Stenhouse was bumped to third after spending most of the day with the quickest lap.

Cavs, Mike Brown could reunite in Cleveland

CLEVELAND — The Cavaliers are seeking a respected, defensive-minded, hard-working teacher to be their next coach.

Those words describe Mike Brown, their former coach.

He could be their new one, too.

Brown, who along with superstar LeBron James led the Cavs to their greatest heights before he was fired three years ago, is one of the candidates the team intends to speak with as it looks to replace Byron Scott. The Cavs are in the initial stages of their coaching search after firing Scott, who went 64-166 in three seasons.

Brown’s return — once thought too far-fetched — is a distinct possibility.

Noah’s status for
Bulls in question

DEERFIELD, Ill. — Joakim Noah’s status for the Chicago Bulls’ first-round playoff series against the Brooklyn Nets is in question because of his injured right foot.

Noah did little in practice on Friday. He says he’s not sure if he’ll play in Game 1 at Brooklyn today, and coach Tom Thibodeau called him day to day for the series.

METAIRIE, La. — New Orleans Saints general manager Mickey Loomis says restricted free agent running back Chris Ivory has signed his tender offer.

The 6-foot, 222-pound Ivory joined the Saints as an undrafted free agent out of Tiffin (Ohio) in 2010 and has run the ball 256 times for 1,307 yards and eight touchdowns, averaging 5.1 yards per carry.

During his rookie season, when injuries to Reggie Bush and Pierre Thomas led to an increase in his playing time, Ivory carried the ball 137 times for a team-leading 716 yards, and average of 5.2 yards per carry with five TD’s.

MONACO — Rafael Nadal edged Grigor Dimitrov 6-2, 2-6, 6-4 Friday to win his 45th straight match at the Monte Carlo Masters and reach the semifinals.

Top-ranked Novak Djokovic had less trouble with Jarkko Nieminen, beating the Finnish veteran 6-4, 6-3. Djokovic won despite a balky right ankle, which the Serb twisted two weeks ago a during Davis Cup match against the United States.

In the semifinal, he’ll face unseeded Fabio Fognini, who defeated Richard Gasquet 7-6 (0), 6-2.

Nadal will meet Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, who beat Stanislas Wawrinka 2-6, 6-3, 6-4.
