Conflicting reaction

After reading the letter from Joan Schleicher on Kohanaiki, I must say I went into a full-blown Tums moment.

She brings up the obesity word and says people need to exercise more. But she waits two years until the new developer builds a paved road so she can drive to the beach in her air-conditioned car. Really?

Obviously, she never saw what the area even looked like before the road. I bet she doesn’t know what the jeep trail is, either.

Obviously, she doesn’t know what the area looked like before the development. She never saw generations surfing, fishing, diving, random camping with full families — including the family dog — enjoying that small stretch of beach. She doesn’t know the 25 plus years in the battle to save Kohanaiki.

Thank you Janice, Karen, Angel for your relentless efforts, but the bottom line is: We lost. We lost it all. There’s a gate and a number of parking stalls.

Now there will be a line; one car leaves, one car goes in. It is life now on The Big “no” Island.

Mahalo

Aid appreciated

My husband was part of that horrid three-car accident that closed Kuakini Highway recently. Luckily, he is recovering from his injuries and we are grateful he is alive.

We would like to send our mahalo to the Kona community that came to our rescue in so many ways. On the scene, the EMTs, Fire Department and police were there super-fast and were so kind. The hospital staff at Kona Community Hospital’s emergency room was also extremely kind and helpful even though they were in the middle of a very busy night.

And finally a big mahalo to the paddling community and the art community we are part of. They are our ohana and they acted like it with calls, dinner delivered, offers for shopping. We are blessed to be part of this community. Everyone please drive with aloha. It is not worth pain or death to get one car ahead in traffic.
