Police arrested 28 drivers for suspected drunken driving between April 8 and Monday; five were involved in traffic accidents; three were younger than 21.

Police arrested 28 drivers for suspected drunken driving between April 8 and Monday; five were involved in traffic accidents; three were younger than 21.

Police have made 389 suspected DUI arrests this year compared with 414 during the same period in 2012, according to the Hawaii Police Department.

South Hilo officers arrested 13 motorists, Kona officers arrested nine and Puna officers three, according to police. North Hilo, Ka‘u and South Kohala officers arrested one motorist in each district.

There have been 367 major accidents this year compared with 435 during the same period in 2012. To date, there have been 11 traffic fatalities on the Big Island compared with 11 at this time in 2012.
