NEWARK, N.J. — The NFL plans to take what investigators learn in the aftermath of the Boston Marathon bombing and incorporate it into its security plans for the cold-weather Super Bowl at MetLife Stadium.
The league said Tuesday that it has raised its security levels for all its games and events since the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks in 2001. For the past two years, it been working closely with federal, state and municipal agencies developing a comprehensive security plan for the Super Bowl, which will be played in the shadow of New York City.

A’s 2B Sizemore has left knee surgery
OAKLAND, Calif. — Oakland Athletics second baseman Scott Sizemore has undergone a second reconstructive surgery on his left knee as planned.
The A’s say Sizemore had a procedure to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament and meniscus. The surgery, performed by Dr. James Andrews in Pensacola, Fla., was an ACL reconstruction using a patellar tendon graft, the team said.

SAN ANTONIO — The San Antonio Spurs have signed veteran forward Tracy McGrady, adding depth and experience as the playoffs arrive.
The 33-year-old McGrady is a seven-time NBA All-Star drafted ninth overall in 1997. In 938 career NBA games, McGrady has averaged 19.6 points, 5.6 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 1.21 steals per game. In 44 playoff games, he has averaged 25.2 points, 6.3 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 1.16 steals.

NFL to release 2013 schedule Thursday
NEW YORK — The NFL will release its 2013 schedule Thursday night with a prime-time TV show.
Completion of the schedule was delayed because of a conflict in Baltimore, where the Orioles are playing on Sept. 5, the night of the now-traditional Thursday season kickoff. So the Super Bowl champion Ravens will open on the road.
Tsonga, Gasquet reach third round in Monaco

Tsonga beat Russian veteran Nikolay Davydenko 7-6 (3), 6-2, while Gasquet had trouble overcoming Benoit Paire 6-1, 3-6, 6-1. Janko Tipsarevic lost to Grigor Dimitrov of Bulgaria 7-6 (3), 6-1.
