The National Weather Service in Honolulu has extended a high wind advisory for the Big Island summits through 6 a.m. Sunday.

The service forecast northerly winds of 20 mph to 35 mph with gusts topping 45 mph for the Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea summits above the 8,000-foot elevation.

A high wind advisory for the summits means winds of at least 30 mph, or gusts of at least 50 mph, are forecast. Residents are urged to secure and protect property. Travel to the summit areas should be delayed until the winds subside.
