There’d be no competition without everyone’s help
Special Olympics Hawaii-West Hawaii would like to thank the Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation and The Club in Kona for their continued support and sponsorship of this year’s Regional Special Olympics Powerlifting competition.
It took many volunteers to make this event possible and Special Olympics Hawaii-West Hawaii thanks each and every one of you for your time and dedication.
A huge mahalo to the Kona community for all your support , donations and encouragement toward our Special Olympic athletes.

Sequester
Congress must
act to end cuts
I applaud Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel for taking a pay cut in solidarity with Pentagon workers being furloughed because of the federal budget sequester, but it doesn’t have to be this way, nor should it.
Because of Congress’ inaction, the sequester is affecting the military’s ability to properly train troops. With North Korea making aggressive moves, Iran still determined to develop nuclear capabilities, and troops still in Afghanistan, we can ill-afford a force that isn’t trained properly for any mission at a moment’s notice, right now.
Add to it that the sequester is also cutting programs our troops have earned — like the military’s tuition assistance program — and it is clear that Congress must act to end the sequester for our own security, and the well-being of the men and women who put their lives on the line to protect us.
