c UC-Irvine 4, Hawaii 1: The Anteaters’ Andrew Thurman won a pitcher’s duel with the Warriors’ Connor Little, striking out eight in 8 2/3 innings in Irvine, Calif.

Thurman gave up one run on three hits, while Connor Spencer’s RBI single and Ronnie Schaefer’s sacrifice fly in the first inning gave UC-Irvine (18-8 overall, 1-3 Big West) a 2-0 lead.

Spencer and Chris Rabago had two hits apiece for the Anteaters.

Little pitched eight innings for the Warriors (7-18, 2-2), allowing four runs on eight hits. He struck out four and walked one.

Kaeo Aliviado plated Hawaii’s lone run when he reached on a fielder’s choice with the bases loaded in the ninth inning.

That chased Thurman, and Race Parmenter got Marc Flores on a comebacker to the mound to end the game.

SOFTBALL

c Hawaii 16, UC-Riverside 0: Kaia Parnaby pitched a five-hit shutout, and Leisha Liilii and Kayla Wartner both homered as the Rainbow Wahine rolled to their ninth straight victory Friday in Honolulu.

Liilii, who hit a three-run homer in the fourth inning, finished 2-for-4 with four RBIs for Hawaii (29-7 overall, 7-0 Big West), which scored eight runs on seven hits in the first inning.

Wartner, who drove in two runs, and Brynne Buchanan both went 3-for-3, while Jazmine Zamora and Sharla Kleibenstein had three RBIs apiece.

Parnaby struck out nine and walked one in improving to 26-3.

UC-Riverside starting pitcher Sophie Slagle lasted 1 2/3 innings in taking the loss. She gave up five runs on five hits, striking out two and walking three.

Offensively, Ariel Shore went 2-for-3 for the Highlanders (15-22, 0-7).
