Kohanaiki development
Hat trick or trifecta?
Why does the Kohanaiki project begin with controversy? Aren’t their plans contingent on sales? Until the new access road is built, does that mean the only way out is the mauka-makai road that is right turn only in the event of, say, a tsunami?
When it is built, does that mean the evacuation route runs parallel to the shoreline?
What will be the length of time between the first resident and the first complaints about airport noise?
Do Kim, Eoff and Kenoi represent a trifecta or a hat trick?

GMO
Consider why and act
As awareness grows over the issue of GMO research and labeling, especially as it concerns Hawaii, being a ground-zero testing site, I want to ask all of you out there who still believe genetically modified crops are the answer to feeding the world — as espoused by the chemical companies that create them — a couple of questions.
If they are so righteous, why would they be opposed to the labeling of such products that are in the marketplace?
Why would they, especially leader Monsanto, be so desperate to wield corporate muscle via lawsuits and lobbyists to keep the information off the foods produced that way?
If there were nothing wrong ….
Better think fast though, because right now, Bill HR 933 with its embedded and unrelated section 735 aka “the Monsanto Protection Act” that gives Monsanto and other chemical companies the right to produce genetically altered crops without official testing and oversight, has passed the United States Congress because of the bill’s larger issues.
It is now awaiting either approval or veto by President Obama.
This dangerous and frightening provision will effectively strip judges of their constitutional mandate to protect consumers, farmers and the environment by opening up the floodgates for the unregulated development and planting of new untested genetically engineered foods for human and livestock consumption that will ultimately endanger us all.
If there is even a flicker of doubt in your mind about the risks that are at issue here, now is the time to let your president know your concerns.
Contact the president today and ask that he defer the bill until Section 735 is omitted from its content.
