Tutu’s House has changed the day for the Tukuafu family sharing of music and culture. The event is now scheduled for 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
Canoe club fundraiser slated Saturday
Kawaihae Canoe Club’s Heritage Bazaar and Silent Auction is slated from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Kawaihae Harbor.
The event features canoe rides, crafts, music and food, in addition to a rummage sale and silent auction. Admission is free. Proceeds from the fundraiser support the club, a 501(c)(3) charity that serves keiki, families and the community by perpetuating canoe culture and outrigger paddling.
The club provides transportation for youth paddlers after school, both in Waimea and Kohala, so they can get to practice with their club ohana. Dues scholarships are made available when needed. In addition to the youth programs, this fundraiser will help provide insurance for racing paddlers, canoe and equipment maintenance and repair of wind damage recently sustained by structures at the club.

Farms tour slated Saturday in N. Kohala
The North Kohala Eat Locally Grown Campaign, together with Sustainable Kohala and Iole Hawaii, will host a Farm to Fork Tour of three farms Saturday.
Ohua O Na Kiai No Na Keiki O Ka Aina volunteers have restored a network of loi with ties to King Kamehameha I.
HIP Agriculture’s GRACE Garden features traditional Polynesian crops and is designed to serve as a demonstration site.
Peter Risley of Risley Farms aims to provide the community with access to quality organic produce.
The tour meets at Iole Hawaii at 1 p.m. Space is limited and advance registration is required. The $10 fee will be collected on the day of the tour. To register, visit foodhubkohala.org or call Karla at 224-1404.
Event benefits horsemanship program
Denny’s Restaurant, in partnership with the Kona Rotary Club, is sponsoring a Project Compassion event to benefit Therapeutic Horsemanship of Hawaii from 4 to 9 p.m. April 7. The free event features entertainment by the Kealakehe Intermediate School Ukulele Band, slack key guitarist John Keawe and his wife, Hope, dancing hula, and slack key and classical guitarist Chris Yeaton. Tommy Ching will emcee the event which also features face painting and balloons for keiki and miniature horses from 4 to 6:30 p.m.
Denny’s will donate 20 percent of sales during the event — servers donate 100 percent of their tips — to Therapeutic Horsemanship, a nonprofit organization providing riding and horsemanship lessons to people with special needs.
