The way Cyrus Inglis and DJ Sekiya are pitching, Hawaii Prep’s bullpen might not get much work this season.
Inglis outdueled Kealakehe’s Teao Buehler, throwing a three-hit shutout as Ka Makani beat the Waveriders 2-0 on the road Friday in a Big Island Interscholastic Federation baseball game.
Inglis even helped himself in the first inning, roping a triple and scoring on Ian Rice’s single. HPA (4-0 BIIF, 5-0 overall) tacked on another run in the second, when Lii Purdy walked, stole second and scored on a Sekiya’s two-out RBI single.
That was enough for Inglis, who struck out five and walked none.
“He really kept us off-balance,” Kealakehe coach Josh Hansen said.
Inglis has allowed just one run in 15 innings this season. He also went the distance against Honokaa on March 12 in a game shortened by the mercy rule.
“He had very good control, and he just mixed his pitches really well,” HPA coach Jordan Hayslip said. “Mike Nakahara caught a great game, and the two worked well to mix the speeds and the pitches.”
Like Inglis, Sekiya has thrown two complete games this season.
On Friday, Buehler was no slouch for the Waveriders (0-2, 1-3). He also pitched a complete-game three hitter, striking out 11 and walking two.
“He had great command of his fastball, his change-up was better than I’ve seen it all year, and he was using his slider,” Hansen said. “His slider was his out pitch, and he was pretty nasty with that.”

c Waiakea 3, Keaau 1: Freshman right-hander Caleb Freitas-Fields was in prime form under the lights in his high school debut, pitching six shutout innings at Wong Stadium.
Featuring the same fastball and curveball that helped make him an accomplished pitcher at the PONY League level, Freitas-Fields struck out nine without walking a batter and allowed only two hits for the Warriors (1-1 BIIF, 3-1 overall).
Senior Aaron Nishiura was 3-for-3 for Waiakea from the No. 7 spot in the order.
Freshman Keian Kanetani pitched well for the Cougars (1-1, 1-2) but fell into trouble when the Warriors loaded the bases in the third inning on two walks and a surprise two-out bunt single by senior Kean Wong. Junior Kodi Medeiros delivered a two-run single to give Waiakea a 3-0 lead.
A Keaau error opened the door for Andy Filoteo’s RBI hit in the first inning.
Cougars senior Keha Wong walked leading off the seventh against Filoteo, a senior, and scored on an error.
Wong and senior Jonathan Segovia had the Cougars’ only hits. Kanetani yielded three runs — two earned — eight hits and three walks.

c Hilo 6, Honokaa 0: Kian Kurokawa pitched five shutout innings, and Jalen Carvalho and Makana Josi-Maa clubbed home runs for the Vikings at Honokaa’s Parks and Recreation complex.
Carvalho and Josi-Maa had two RBIs apiece as the Vikings (2-1 BIIF, 4-1 overall) banged out nine hits against Dragons’ starter Robert Abran.
Jodd Carter added two hits for Hilo.
Kurokawa gave up just three hits, and Kodi Kaniho followed with two scoreless innings.
Abran took the loss, and Austin Jardine had two hits for the Dragons (0-2, 0-5).

c Keaau 21, Pahoa 4: Lohi Kamakea-Wong struck out 12 batters in a complete-game effort, and she also hit a three-run triple to lead Keaau (2-0 BIIF, 5-2 overall) on the road.
McKenzie Singleton took the loss for the Daggers (0-2, 1-6). Pahoa’s Ernell Oguma had two hits, and teammate Kayla Silva had a two-homer in the fifth inning.
