High surf is forecast along the Big Island’s west-facing shores through 6 p.m. today, according to the National Weather Service in Honolulu.

The service forecast waves ranging in height from 6 feet to 9 feet.

A high surf advisory means waves along affected shores will be higher than normal, and dangerous rip currents are expected. The service said the surf’s impact should be moderate and urges beachgoers, swimmers and surfers to exercise caution and heed advice given by ocean safety officials.
