Fire officials are investigating the cause of a early Friday structure fire in the Hawaiian Ocean View Estates subdivision of Ka’u.

Fire officials are investigating the cause of a early Friday structure fire in the Hawaiian Ocean View Estates subdivision of Ka‘u.

Responding to the 12:30 a.m. report, firefighters found a 900-square-foot single-story structure on Coconut Drive engulfed in flames, according to the Hawaii Fire Department. One person inside the structure escaped prior to firefighters arriving on the scene and was evacuated to a safe area on Coconut Drive.

The fire was declared under control at 12:50 a.m. and extinguished at 1:15 a.m., according to the department.

Damage was estimated at $45,000, according to the department.
