Carla Napua Kekuewa Freitas, 74, of Honaunau died March 3 at her residence. Born in Kona Aug. 11, 1938, she was a retired park ranger at the Puuhonua o Honaunau National Historical Park and member of St. Benedict’s Catholic Church, St. Benedict’s Kumiai, founder of the St. Benedict’s Food Pantry and president of Ohi Lauhala a Puhala Preservation Organization.

Friends may call March 22 at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church in Honaunau for a 6 p.m. wake service. Friends may call again at the church, March 23 at 8 a.m. for a 10 a.m. Mass; burial will follow at Kona Memorial Park in Holualoa. The family requests aloha attire and flowers are welcome.

She is survived by her sons, Wilfred (Pamela) Freitas of Holualoa, Loren (Gaynelle) Freitas of Kailua-Kona, Michael (Karen) Freitas of Honaunau, Kawika (Bernadette) Freitas of Maui; daughters, Kaui Freitas and Noe Freitas, both of Honaunau, Joby Crichton of Hilo, Kehaulani (David Henriques) Freitas of Capt. Cook; brothers, Wayne (Vera) Kekuewa of Honolulu, Zadoc (Yong-Ae) Kekuewa of Honaunau; sisters, Ruby Kahoonei of Honaunau and Patricia Imai of Ocean View; brothers-in-law, Alexander Freitas of Oahu, James (Linda) Freitas of Kauai; sisters-in-law, Margie (Charles) Spinney of Oahu, Melvine (Donna) Kualii and Myrtle Bush, both of Kailua-Kona; 33 grandchildren; 35 great grandchildren; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
