INDIAN WELLS, Calif. — Top-ranked Novak Djokovic reached the fourth round at the BNP Paribas Open on Tuesday when he beat Grigor Dimitrov 7-6 (4), 6-1 for his 20th consecutive victory.
Defending women’s champion Victoria Azarenka extended her own streak, routing Urszula Radwanska 6-3, 6-1 for her 17th straight win. Urszula’s sister, third-seeded Agnieszka Radwanska, was beaten by No. 13 Maria Kirilenko, 6-1, 4-6, 7-5.
Maria Sharapova advanced to the quarterfinals with a 7-5, 6-0 win over Lara Arruabarrena-Vecino of Spain.
No. 8 seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga edged 32nd-seeded Mardy Fish 7-6 (4), 7-6 (0) in a third-round match on the men’s side.
Tsonga next plays 17th-seeded Milos Raonic, who outlasted Marin Cilic 3-6, 6-4, 6-3.
On the women’s side, fifth-seeded Petra Kvitova beat No. 19 seed Klara Zakopalova 6-2, 6-3, and sixth-seeded Sara Errani defeated No. 9 Marion Bartoli 6-3, 6-2.
Bus carrying Vt. lacrosse team crashes in N.Y.
CLIFTON PARK, N.Y. — A bus carrying college lacrosse players from Vermont was hit Tuesday by a sports car that spun out of control on a wet highway in upstate New York, sending the bus toppling onto its side, police said. One person in the sports car died.
The victim was a 64-year-old female passenger in the red Porsche that hit the bus, authorities said; the 65-year-old man who had been driving was in critical condition. Four players on the bus were treated for minor injuries at the scene.
The crash happened shortly before noon Tuesday on Interstate 87 in Saratoga County, about 150 miles north of New York City. Players stood alongside the highway after the crash in purple jackets and white shorts and were taken on a school bus to a nearby firehouse.
The bus was carrying 34 players, three coaches and a driver from Saint Michael’s College, a small Catholic liberal arts school in Colchester, Vt., to a game in Westchester County, just north of New York City, State Police Lt. Greg Thomas said.

rejects MLB request
MIAMI — The Miami New Times has rejected a request from Major League Baseball for records that the alternative newspaper obtained for a story that alleges several players received performance-enhancing drugs from a now-closed anti-aging clinic.
New Times editor Chuck Strouse’s response to MLB commissioner Bud Selig appeared on the paper’s website Tuesday.
Strouse cited journalistic ethics and the fact that the newspaper has already posted dozens of records on its website, omitting personal information of people who weren’t involved in any wrongdoing.
The newspaper reported in January that six professional baseball players, including Yankees slugger Alex Rodriguez, bought human growth hormone and other PEDs from 2009 to 2012 from Biogenesis of America LLC. The defunct anti-aging clinic in Coral Cables was operated by Anthony Bosch. Rodriguez has denied the allegations.
