Mokupapapa Discovery Center in downtown Hilo is notifying the public that it will be closed beginning today to relocate to a nearby location.

The center is expected to reopen in June in time to welcome visitors to celebrate its 10th anniversary. Additional announcements will come closer to the reopening.

Spring break sailing camps planned in Kona

Youth sailing days are scheduled for March 18 to 22. The Big Island Sailing Foundation will assist Kona Sailing Club Junior sailors in providing three days of sailing out of Honokohau Small Boat Harbor in Kailua-Kona. Land and water activities are planned each day from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Participants should be at least 12 years old, however, experienced sailors over 10 may attend. Attendees must be able to swim, and be comfortable on a boat and in the water. Boats used will be from 12 feet to 21 feet. The program is lead by U.S. Sailing-certified instructors.

The fee for the three-day camp is $70 for Kona Sailing Club Juniors. For new members, add $20 to the cost.

Dance party and lesson on Sunday at Elks Club

The Kona dancers will host a night of dancing at the Elks Club in Kailua-Kona.

The event, which is open to the public, runs from 6 to 9 p.m. on Sunday. There will be a free dance lesson by professional dance instructor Lance Oliver, who will teach merengue. Merengue is a fun and easy style of Latin dance. No partner is needed.

Pupu will be served and attendees are welcome to bring a dish. A donation of $5 is requested at the door.

Rotary hosts St. Patrick’s Day event

The Rotary Club of Kona Sunrise will be host a St. Patrick’s Day celebration on Saturday at the Hawaii Big Game Fish Club at the Honokahau Harbor.

Beer will be provided by the Kona Brewing Co. and food will include corned beef and cabbage, fabulous pupu and ono desserts. The Country Living Band will provide outdoor entertainment and there will also be a silent auction and grand raffle.

The event runs from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. The cost is $25 per person and tickets can be purchased at Kona Wine Market, Queen K Tesoro, and the Kailua Candy Co.

Event sponsors include Quinn’s Almost By The Sea, Heavenly Hawaiian Coffee, Kamaaina Diamond Co., Kona Brewing Co. and West Hawaii Today. All money raised supports Rotary’s local community projects.
