c Gonzaga 3, Hawaii 1 (12 innings): Cabe Reiten hit a two-run triple in the top of the 12th inning to break a 1-1 tie and hand Hawaii another frustrating loss.

Hawaii (1-15) led 1-0 after Marc Flores hit a two-out solo home run in the second inning, and the Warriors maintained the lead until the top of the ninth when Corey Lebrun hit a two-out, RBI single to score Alex Bonczyk from second and tie the game.

Jon Flinn suffered the loss in relief. He allowed two runs on four hits in three innings.

Michael Rucker earned the win for Gonzaga (9-4-1). He gave up no runs on one hit over the final 3 2/3 innings.

SOFTBALL

c Hawaii 4, Syracuse 1: Sophomore catcher Kayla Wartner went 2-for-4 with a solo home run that broke a 1-1 tie in the third, and the Warriors improved to 17-5 on the season with a win over Syracuse on Monday.

Senior pitcher Kaia Parnaby (15-2) pitched a complete game. She gave up one run on one hit and struck out 15. She also walked a pair.

Senior third baseman Kaile Nakao also had a good day at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs.

Danielle Chitkowski hit a solo home run for Syracuse (5-10). Lindsay Taylor (1-7) took the loss, allowing two runs on five hits in five innings. She struck out seven and walked three.

Earlier in the day, sophomore first baseman Leisha Liili was named the Big West Field Player of the Week. Liilii went 6-for-8 at this weekend’s Pepsi Malihini Kipa Aloha Tournament in Honolulu with two home runs and nine RBIs. Liilii went 0-for-3 on Monday.

MEN’S VOLLEYBALL

c Zarkovic Garners second MPSF weekly award: University of Hawaii freshman outside hitter Sinisa Zarkovic earned his second Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Molten Player of the Week following his performance in the Warriors’ two-match sweep of USC.

Zarkovic accumulated a two-match hitting clip of .429 in the Warriors’ five-set wins over USC. In the first match, he served four of the team’s 12 aces, which was an MPSF team-high for a conference match this year. Two of the four aces were in set five, helping UH come back for a 3-2 win after a two-set deficit. That same night, he collected his third double-double of the season on 16 kills and 10 digs, while hitting .452.

Zarkovic also won the award on Jan. 28 after leading UH to a sweep of Pepperdine. On the season, the freshman leads the team with a 2.93 kill average and ranks second in digs (1.40) and third in aces (16).
