Mike Dedrick pitched six shutout innings, and Mitch Manning drove in six runs to lead Dixie State to a 15-0 win over the University of Hawaii at Hilo in the first game of a doubleheader Sunday.

The Pacific West Conference baseball twinbill was played at Wong Stadium. Dixie State won Game 2 2-1 in eight innings.

The Red Storm improved to 11-3 overall and 4-2 in the PacWest. The host Vulcans fell to 6-16 and 5-11. The teams conclude their four-game series with a doubleheader starting at 4 p.m. today at Wong.

Dedrick started and got the win in Game 1. He allowed five hits while striking out six.

Manning had a two-run double in the eighth inning and hammered a grand slam in the ninth to cap a dominating day of offense by the visiting Red Storm.

Teammates Jordan Hanley and Cedric Johnson each had three hits.

John Abreu and Samuel Kim each had two hits for UH-Hilo.

Dixie State exploded for six runs in the top of the fourth inning, then added five in the eighth and four in the ninth.

UH-Hilo starter Jordan Kurokawa went 3 2/3 innings and took the loss.

In the second game, Garrett Nash scored from second on a single by Ty Johnson in the top of the eighth, and Dixie State held on for the 2-1 win. The second game was scheduled for seven innings.

Kort Christofferson pitched the final four innings and earned the win. He gave up no runs on three hits and struck out four.

Sheldon Shishido pitched 2 2/3 innings in relief and took the loss for the Vulcans. He gave up one run on two hits and struck out two.

Greg Cleary scored UH-Hilo’s lone run in the fifth. He scored from third on Steffen Miner’s double-play ground out.

Dixie State’s Ryan Westcott was the only player for either team to pair hits. He went 2-for-4.

The Vulcans next host Grand Canyon in a four-game PacWest series this coming weekend at Wong Stadium.
