Nancy Mitsue Kitajima, 103, of Hilo died Feb. 26, 2013, at Pohai Malama Hospice. Born in Saga Prefecture, Japan, she was a member of the Hilo Meishoin and Hilo Meisho Fujinkai, recognized as a cultural treasure by the Japanese Community Association of Hawaii for her contribution in perpetuating the Japanese culture of chado, involved in the Taishoji Haiku Club, taught flower arrangement and Japanese language school.
Private funeral services were held.
She is survived by daughters, Sumie (Earl Ogata) Kitajima-Ogata of Hilo, Grace Kitajima of Colorado; son, Stanley Kitajima of Honolulu; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
