Artists in schools grants available

The Hawaii State Foundation on Culture and the Arts announces the availability of its Artists in the Schools Program Partnership Grant application. All public schools, including charter schools, are eligible to apply for grants of up to $6,000 per school for artist residencies to be conducted during the 2013-14 school year. Schools must use a teaching artist from the HSFCA’s Artistic Teaching Partners Roster. A residency consists of five to eight or more sessions by the artist with the same students. The learning experiences must support fine arts standards from the Department of Education Hawaii Content and Performance Standards III.

Schools must contribute 10 percent of the grant amount received, in cash, toward residency expenses. Only one application per school may be submitted. The postmark application deadline is May 1. Grants will be awarded only if and when the HSFCA receives the necessary funding in fiscal year 2013-14.

For more information, including application forms and the partners roster, visit hawaii.gov/sfca/artist_school.html or contact Vivien Lee at 586-0768 or email vivien.lee@hawaii.gov.

Gallery MELD, a new gallery in Kailua-Kona, is seeking artists of any medium, from or based in Hawaii, to be part of its collective. The 1,587-square-foot gallery will operate as a sales floor with a museum ethic. The open floor plan will allow for regularly scheduled events. There are a limited number of spaces left.

Interested parties are encouraged to submit their applications as soon as possible to gallerymeld@yahoo.com. Applicants should include examples of their artwork, a biography and contact information. Also, if available, any prior sales data or show or gallery history.
