A Kona man has been charged with burglary for a break-in that occurred late last year in Kailua-Kona, according to the Hawaii Police Department.

A Kona man has been charged with burglary for a break-in that occurred late last year in Kailua-Kona, according to the Hawaii Police Department.

The burglary took place Dec. 17 at a home on Onaona Drive. Police developed a suspect, identified as 49-year-old Jerome Soares of Kailua-Kona.

Soares was arrested Monday at the Kona courthouse and taken to the Kona police cellblock while Area II Criminal Investigations Section detectives continued the investigation.

Soares was charged at 10:45 a.m. Tuesday with first-degree burglary and second-degree theft. His bail was set at $35,000. He remains at the cellblock pending his initial court appearance scheduled for today, police said.
