Police arrested 38 drivers for suspected drunken driving between Feb. 18 and Monday; seven were involved in traffic accidents and one was under age 21.

Police have made 185 suspected DUI arrests this year compared with 217 during the same period in 2012, according to the Hawaii Police Department.

Kona officers arrested 19 motorists, South Hilo officers arrested 13, Puna officers five and South Kohala officers arrested one, according to police.

There have been 193 major accidents this year compared with 229 during the same period in 2012. To date, there have been eight traffic fatalities on the Big Island compared with four at this time in 2012.
