He hit the shot on the 164-yard 15th hole using a 9-iron. Tony Mardian and Terry Scott witnessed the shot.
Big Island Candies tournament May 10
The Big Island Senior Golf Tournament will be held May 10 at the Waikoloa Kings Course. This event is open to all Big Island residents aged 55 or older and is sponsored by the Big Island Candies Foundation, Waikoloa Kings Course and the Hawaii County Department of Parks and Recreation.
Residents can enter the tournament as a foursome or individually. The tournament fee is $90 per person, which includes greens fees, cart, lunch, and gratuities. Slots are available to the first 140 entrants on a first come, first served basis.
The tournament format is 18 holes, low net with an established handicap index as of March 2013. The maximum handicap index is 40. All USGA and special course rules will apply. Golfers will be divided into four flights, men and women aged 55-64, and men and women 65 and older.
Tournament entry forms will be available beginning Monday at the West Hawaii Special Programs office West Hawaii Civic Center, Building B, Hilo Kamana Senior Center, Keaau Community Center and by appointment at the Naalehu and Waimea Coordinated Services for the Elderly office.
Tournament fees must accompany completed registration forms to be confirmed. The deadline for submission of entry forms and payments is April 25. Completed forms and payments will only be accepted at the West and East Hawaii Elderly Recreation offices.

New Kai Opua paddlers meeting Wednesday
The 2013 regatta season will be starting soon, and Kai Opua is looking for new adult paddlers. Interested paddlers should meet Wednesday at the Marriott King Kamehameha Billfisher Bar from 6 to 8 p.m. It is a time to meet club coaches and paddlers, talk story and learn about the scheduled practices for competitive crews and about recreational paddling.
Pupus are provided, but there will be a no-host bar.

c Keiki practice at 3:45 p.m. March 11 for girls and 3:45 p.m. March 12 for boys.
c The club will host its “try it out” and club registration day from 8 a.m. to noon March 23 at Kamakahonu Beach next to Kailua Pier. No experience is necessary, and keiki and adults are welcome. There will be paddling and rigging instruction, other club activities and a potluck lunch at noon.

Hawaii Junior
Golf Day March 9
On March 9, the Hawaii State Junior Golf Association and the Aloha Section PGA will hold the second annual Hawaii Junior Golf Day. The purpose of the event is to introduce Hawaii’s keiki between the ages of 5 and 17 to the game of golf. New and beginner players are encouraged to attend.
Big Island golfers can participate at Mauna Kea Golf Course or Makalei Golf Club.
Children can register at HSJGA.org. Age-appropriate golf equipment will be provided.
Check-in begins at 8:30 a.m. with games, clinics and activities running from 9 to 11 a.m. PGA professionals and volunteers will teach clinics.
Run for Hops March 9
Peoples Advocacy for Trails Hawaii will hold the sixth running of the Kona Brewers Festival Run For Hops at 7:30 a.m. March 9. The start and finish will be at BMW of Hawaii on Loloku Street, which is a new host location this year.
This event, which is part the official Kona Brewers Festival suite of events, is a fundraiser benefiting the PATH Bike Ed Safety Program for Hawaii Island fourth-graders.
Entry forms and in-person registration are available at Bike Works in Kona and Bikeworks Beach & Sports at the Queens’ Marketplace in Waikoloa. Limited race-day registration is available from 6:15 to 7 a.m. Online registration and a downloadable copy of the entry form are also available at pathhawaii.org under the events tab.

Waiakea seeks girls volleyball coach
Waiakea High School is accepting applications for varsity girls volleyball coach for the 2013-14 school year. AYSO spring registration ongoing
AYSO soccer teams are accepting registration for the spring season in West Hawaii.
Players may register at eayso.org. The registration fee of $80 can be paid on the website, or it can be mailed to AYSO Region 527 PO Box 1598 Kailua-Kona, HI 96745.
There is a $5 discount for additional children, and there are other discounts available at the website.

KGMA hunting
permits available
The Department of Land and Natural Resources will grant muzzleloader animal control permits for feral goats and feral sheep at Kaohe Game Management Area through April 14.
Kaohe Game Management Area is an archery unit for game mammals with no bag limit for sheep and goats. To increase public harvest efficiency of feral goats and sheep, DLNR’s Division of Forestry and Wildlife is allowing the use of muzzleloaders for licensed hunters by permit.
Permits will be available at the Kilohana check station for muzzleloader for feral goats and sheep with no bag limit, but every effort must be made to retrieve and harvest animals within designated areas.
Hunters must use every safety precaution in using muzzleloaders. Blaze orange is required for all hunters in Kaohe GMA, including archery hunters.
DLNR is increasing hunter participation in Kaohe GMA to protect Palila Critical Habitat from overgrazing of mamane trees from feral goats and sheep. Further information may be obtained by contacting the DOFAW offices in Hilo at 974-4221 or in Waimea at 887-6063.
Waverider Triathlon Club race March 17
The Waverider Triathlon Club will host the 5K Leprechaun-a-thon and Sham-Walk at 7 a.m. March 17. Registration will run from 6 to 6:40 a.m.
The registration fee will be $12 before March 10 and $15 thereafter.

Beginner golf
classes for women
Golf professional Rob Wohlgemuth will offer a five-week series of beginner golf lessons for women at Makalei Golf Club beginning March 16.
The classes are open to all women interested in the basics of golf. Classes meet five consecutive Saturdays from 8 to 10 a.m.

Kai Ehitu golf tournament April 6
Kai Ehitu Canoe Club will hold its inaugural benefit golf tournament April 6 at Kona Country Club. Registration begins at 7 a.m., and shotgun start follows at 8 a.m.
The $110 registration fee includes continental breakfast, lunch and awards.

Luck of the Irish tournament March 18
The 11th annual Luck of the Irish Golf Tournament, a benefit for the Hawaii Island United Way, will be held March 18 at The Club at Hokulia. The campaign goal is $1.2 million.
There will be a pre-tournament gala from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. March 17.

College-prep basketball camp June 3-7
Hawaii Island Hoops will hold its college-prep basketball camp June 3-7 at the Kekuaokalani Gym. Registration is ongoing.
The camp includes Nike SPARQ Training, daily fundamental training workouts, shooting clinics, defensive breakdowns, team offense, individual skills competitions, team tournament and championship game. There will also be a 3-point shootout, free-throw and slam dunk contests, all-star games and awards ceremony.
The camp is open to boys ages 13-19 that are looking to improve their skills and learn a college-style program. The registration fee is $350 and includes instruction from NCAA, NAIA and junior college players and coaches, and evening college-prep seminars on academic requirements, financial aid and athletic recruitment.
All meals are included in the registration fee.
