A Codependents Anonymous women’s meeting is held from 4 to 5:30 p.m. every Monday at the Kona Center, Unity Community Church pavilion at the corner of Kuakini Highway and Hanama Place.

Kahakai council meeting tuesday
Kahakai Elementary School is having its monthly School Community Council meeting at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the administration conference room. The purpose of this meeting is to review the 2013-14 academic plan.
Parents nad community members are encouraged to attend.
Ride to raise A.S. awareness Friday
A “Ride with Aloha” begins at 8:30 a.m. Friday, World Arthritis Day. Bicycle riders will meet at the Bike Works Beach and Sports parking lot in Waikoloa and pedal approximately 25 to 30 miles. The ride is free, though pledges are accepted, and organized by Team ENDURANCE for A.S.
Friday also marks the first day of the 65-day “Walk Your A.S. Off” challenge, to raise awareness of Ankylosing Spondylitis. Cyclists will add “steps” – 2,000 steps per mile, per person – to the effort to “step to the moon,” over the course of the challenge. Another group ride is planned May 4, World Ankylosing Spondylitis Day.

United Way director speaking to hui
West Hawaii Hui Laulima meets from 10:30 a.m. to noon Friday at the West Hawaii Community Health Center community meeting room, Kailua-Kona.
Cathie Amelotte, HawaiI Island United Way community advancement director, will continue the discussion started at the February meeting where three areas emerged that would benefit the community: establishing a “detox” center in West Hawaii, providing transitional resources for domestic violence victims and creating a comprehensive community center. Additionally, the hui will pursue its role in addressing these specific areas.
The hui is a consortium of West Hawaii’s major health and human service providers, faith-based groups, community associations, businesses, government and concerned individuals.
