The Waimea Arts Council announces the 29th annual Na Opio Youth Juried Art Show planned during March at the Firehouse Gallery, featuring art created by students in North and South Kohala and Hamakua districts. The event also marks the 52nd annual Youth Art Month, which serves as a reminder of the need for art in all areas of life — not only as a means of expression but to stimulate young people, enabling their developing minds to accept all forms of learning.
The show is open to students in grades 6 through 12, including home-schooled students, and will be judged within each grade level. Art will be accepted between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Saturday at the Firehouse Gallery. Art must conform with the rules of the show, and the gallery reserves the right to refuse art that is inappropriate, or to display according to space available. To receive a prospectus, contact janicegailart@aol.com or call Janice Gail at 936-1449. Cash prizes and award certificates will be presented at a reception for the artists slated from 3 to 5 p.m. March 3 at the gallery.
The Firehouse Gallery, open 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays, is located at the intersection of Mamalahoa Highway and Lindsey Road in Waimea. Call the gallery at 887-1052 before visiting, to confirm hours. The Waimea Arts Council is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) volunteer organization.
