High surf is expected along the Big Island’s east-facing shores through Friday morning, according to the National Weather Service.

High surf is expected along the Big Island’s east-facing shores through Friday morning, according to the National Weather Service.

Strong trade winds will keep elevated and rough surf, approximately 6 to 8 feet with occasional higher sets, on the affected coastlines. A high surf advisory is in effect, said officials at the Honolulu Forecast Office.

Strong breaking waves, a pounding shore break, as well as strong longshore and rip currents will make swimming difficult and dangerous. Beach-goers, swimmers and surfers should heed all advice given by ocean safety officials and exercise caution.
