Harold Akio Higuchi, 78, of Hilo died Jan. 28, 2013, at Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home in Hilo. Born May 28, 1934, in Hilo, he was a retired cook and member of the Waiakea Pirates.

Private services were held. Family requests no flowers or monetary offerings.

He is survived by wife, Maureen Higuchi of Honolulu; son, Glenn Higuchi of California; daughters, Jeri (Steve) Mosley of Maui, Gail (John) Miyao of Honolulu; brother, Albert Higuchi of Washington state; sisters, Tsutae Nonaka, Chizuru (Joe) Sugawara and Setsuko Isa, all of Hilo, Kaoru (Yoshiharu) Mikami and Carol Yano, both of Honolulu; four grandchildren; numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.
