The Friends of Hawaii Volcanoes National Park will take a behind-the-scenes look at areas of the park not open to the public from 8:30 a.m. to noon Saturday.
The Friends of Hawaii Volcanoes National Park will take a behind-the-scenes look at areas of the park not open to the public from 8:30 a.m. to noon Saturday.
Rhonda Loh and her staff will lead a tour of the park’s rare plant propagation facility, where participants will see some of the rarest species on earth. Those in attendance will also view the park’s research collection of botanical and zoological specimens with botanist Linda Pratt and wildlife biologist Thane Pratt. Nearly all species of plants and birds known to live, or to have once lived, in the park are represented in this “mini-museum.”
The program costs $25 for Friends members and $35 for nonmembers. Nonmembers are welcome to join the group to receive the discount. Proceeds support Friends of Hawaii Volcanoes National Park educational programs.
