A 23-year-old Kona man is facing charges in connection with the Monday lockdown of two West Hawaii schools.
A 23-year-old Kona man is facing charges in connection with the Monday lockdown of two West Hawaii schools.
Lyle Kawika Pascubillo was charged Tuesday evening with two counts first-degree terroristic threatening, according to the Hawaii Police Department. His bail was set at $4,000.
The charges stem from a Monday morning report by a 25-year-old Honokaa woman who said she had received numerous threatening phone calls and text messages from an unknown source, according to police. The text messages allegedly made reference to the threat of violence at Honokaa High and Intermediate School and Waimea Elementary School.
Police contacted officials at the two schools and notified them. As a precaution, officials at both schools and Waimea Middle School placed the campuses in lockdown.
Police said the suspect called from a residence in Kailua-Kona where Kona patrol officers contacted and arrested Pascubillo. School officials were notified of the arrest and the schools resumed normal operations.
