High wind advisory for Big Isle summits

A high wind advisory is in effect until 10 a.m. for Big Island summits, according to the National Weather Service in Honolulu.

The service forecast northerly winds of 25 mph to 35 mph with gusts topping 45 mph for the Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea summits above the 8,000-foot elevation.

A high wind advisory for the summits means winds of at least 30 mph, or gust of at least 50 mph, are forecast. Residents are urged to secure and protect property. Travel to the summit areas should be delayed until the winds subside.
