Waimea schools in lockdown

Waimea Middle School and Waimea Elementary School were in lockdown mode this morning.

A source with knowledge of the lockdown said it was prompted by a threat of some kind. Police called the school and recommended the lockdown, the source said.

Stephens Media could not immediately confirm the nature of the threat.

The campus is secure and students are safe, the source said.

Other Waimea-area schools were also informed about the lockdown.
