Artist instructor Patricia Hoban will lead “Process Painting, the Spirit of Creativity” from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Feb. 23 at the Volcano Art Center’s Niaulani Campus in Volcano Village. Originating from The Painting Studio in San Francisco, where Hoban has studied under Barbara Kaufman and Michele Cassou, this unique method encourages full expression without censorship and arouses an honest connection with the artist’s true voice.
“We strive to get rid of our internal critic and judge through this endeavor,” Hoban said. “When people learn the process, they can paint from within, letting their subconscious or right brain engage in spontaneous expression.”
“In my workshops I often find that people who have formal art training have the most difficulty entering into the process,” she said. “People who don’t consider themselves painters, sculptors or writers tend to have an easier time of it. And they get more out of it.”
Bring lunch and water and dress comfortably in “painting clothes.” The cost is $45, or $40 for VAC members, plus a $5 supply fee. Space is limited; registration is required.
