College consultant to meet with public
A community meeting is planned with Jay Siegel, consultant for Hawaii Community College, from 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday at Hawaii Community College’s University Center-West Hawaii in Kealakekua, Building 4, Room 3.
Siegel has been contracted to develop the academic master plan for Hawaii Community College-Palamanui.
He will also be available between 3 and 4:30 p.m. for anyone requesting individual meetings.

Healthy living support groups meet in Waimea
Vivienne Aronowitz, registered dietitian and certified diabetes educator, will offer two eight-week support group series starting Wednesday in Waimea.
The weekly meetings will provide participants with an opportunity to check in and set new goals. Aronowitz will share the latest nutrition information and provide healthy recipe ideas and food tastings. The groups are intended for those committed to improving their health through weight loss or blood pressure or lipid or diabetes control.
The cost may be covered by some health insurance plans.

Kona Masons meet Wednesday
Kona Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons meets Wednesday at the Kona Masonic Center, 73-5577 Kauhola St., No. 7, Kailua-Kona. Activities begin with a Valentine’s Day dinner for members and their spouses at 6 p.m. The meeting begins at 7 p.m. and is followed by dessert.

Veterans symposium planned in Hilo
“Malama Na Koa,” or “Care for the Warriors,” a veterans symposium, is slated in March.
Vietnam veteran and acupuncturist Edyson Kapua Ching and anthropologist healer Jeffrey Dann will produce the event, in conjunction with the Hawaii College of Oriental Medicine, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 15, 16 and 17 at the college located at Naniloa Resort, 93 Banyan Drive, Room 504, Hilo. The fee is $125.
Joe Chang, author of “The Treatment of PTSD with Chinese Medicine” will present the keynote address March 15.
Sensei Takahiro Funamizu will lead “Conditions of the Heart and Meridian Therapy: Fine-touch Approach to Trauma, PTSD and Depression” March 16 and 17. The fee is $325 if registered by Feb. 15; $375 after that date.
