Kenan Gaspar scored 15 points, and Brandon Awa added 12 Thursday in Waimea as Konawaena’s boys basketball team remained unbeaten in Big Island Interscholastic Federation play with a 54-50 win over Hawaii Prep.
The Wildcats (8-0) led 39-30 after three quarters before Ka Makani (5-3) mounted a late charge and got within a point with less than a minute remaining.
Jovan Crnic led HPA with 20 points, and Kama DeSilva added 11.

Kamehameha-Hawaii 67, Pahoa 54: Senior guard Shaun Kagawa scored 25 points, and the host Warriors overcame Nick Fisher’s 31-point performance to moved into a second-place tie with Waiakea in the BIIF East Hawaii Division I standings.
Ilikai Calip added 16 points, and La’a Manliguis chipped in 12 for Kamehameha (7-3).
