Search efforts have resumed for a man who reportedly did not return from a diving expedition Wednesday off Puuhonua O Honaunau National Historical Park in South Kona.

The man was reported missing after he failed to board an 8 a.m. Thursday flight to the mainland, according to the Hawaii Fire Department. His truck was located at the park entrance with his wallet and cell phone inside; his dive gear was missing.

Search efforts were initiated shortly after the missing person report came in at 8:24 p.m. Thursday with personnel conducting shoreline and aerial surveys extending 1 mile north and south of the park, according to the department. The search was subsequently suspended with negative findings because of darkness.
