Conflict resolution workshop scheduled
Kimberly Dark will facilitate “Conflict Resolution: Reframing Problems in Order to Generate Solutions” from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday in Room 103, Building 388 at Hawaii Community College. Workshop participants will examine the causes of conflict and how language can help individuals avoid conflict in a variety of settings. They will also focus on turning complaints into issues — the art of reframing and paraphrasing.
The workshop is of interest to educators and those who work with young people or have children; human service professionals and case workers; managers, business owners and meeting facilitators; volunteer and professional mediators; and others wishing to better handle conflict in everyday settings.

Geocachers plan
meet and greet
The fifth annual West Hawaiian Geocachers’ Kailua-Kona Winter 2013 Meet and Greet is slated from 10 a.m. to noon Sunday at the Kona Coast Shopping Center Food Court.
Anyone interested in geocaching is encouraged to attend the free event. No experience is necessary; volunteers will demonstrate how and where to find a geocache.
A lunch “debriefing” is planned after the meet and greet at 1 p.m. at Harbor House.

Line dancing class
for beginners slated
The Waipahu Community School for Adults-Kona Campus is offering a 10-week beginner’s line dancing class from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Mondays beginning Jan. 28 at Kealakehe High School. The cost is $30, plus a $20 enrollment fee. A minimum of 12 students is required.

Marine monument presentation in Hilo
The Papahanaumokuakea Marine National Monument is the largest conservation area in the U.S. and one of the largest marine conservation areas in the world. It encompasses an area of 140,000 square miles and is home to 7,000 marine species, many of which are found nowhere else in the world.
Nakoa Goo is program coordinator for the Mokupapapa Discovery Center, the primary education and public outreach facility for the monument. Goo will share information and images from the area, and speak about the people who help protect it at 7 p.m. Monday at Lyman Museum, 276 Haili St., Hilo.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Admission is $3 for nonmembers and free to members.
