A supper celebrating the life and work of Scottish poet Robert Burns is slated from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Friday at Christ Church Episcopal in Kealakekua.
Admission is free; bring a potluck item — Scottish dishes are optional. Highland dress or tartan clothing is also optional. Bring Scotch whiskey to toast the author whilst sharing his poems.

Coffee farmer expo scheduled Friday
The sixth annual Kona Coffee Farmers Association Expo will be held from 9 to 3 p.m. Friday at the Old Kona Airport Park Makaeo Events Pavilion. The free event connects farmers with vendors and service providers who serve the farmers’ needs.
The expo will feature displays, products and service information. Tom Greenwell of Greenwell Farms will present “The State of the Infestation” at 1:30 p.m., with an emphasis on the coffee berry borer.

Entrants sought for Kamehameha parade
Preparations are now under way for the annual King Kamehameha Day Celebration Parade to be held June 15 on Alii Drive in Kailua-Kona beginning at 9 a.m. Registration is open to groups and individuals who want to be in the parade, including marching bands, floats, vehicles, hula halau and equestrian units, both private mounted and pa‘u. Volunteer and sponsorship opportunities are also available.
For entry guidelines or to download a registration application, visit the parade’s official website at konaparade.org. All entries are subject to the approval of the parade committee, and must not be political or blatantly advertorial.
This year’s King Kameha-maha Day Celebration Parade begins at 9 a.m. at Walua Road and Alii Drive in Kailua-Kona and travels through Kailua Village to Palani Road and Kuakini Highway.
All equestrian participants should have basic horsemanship skills. Pa‘u units represent the eight Hawaiian Islands and will be led by pa‘u princesses who must be part Hawaiian and 18 or older. Attending riders in pa‘u units must be age 18 and older, while a banner page may be age 12 or older, depending on riding experience.

Literacy council
meets Friday afternoon
Kona Literacy Council meets at 1 p.m. Friday at the Kailua Learning Center in the Kailua Village Condominiums, 75-5766 Kuakini Highway, No. 106A. Members and those interested in learning about the council are invited to attend.
The council administers the center where trained volunteers help adults improve their reading, writing, math and computer skills.

A rummage sale fundraiser is scheduled from 7 a.m. to noon Saturday at Hawaii Montessori Schools-Kona campus, 74-978 Manawalea St.
The sale will include adult and children’s clothes, books, toys, baby items and household goods. Items may be donated for sale; donations are tax deductible.

Culinary arts program fundraiser Saturday
Kings’ Shops at Waikoloa Beach Resort and the American Culinary Federation Kona Kohala Chefs’ Association will host Culinary Arts Under the Stars from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday. The event benefits the culinary arts program at Hawaii Community College-Palamanui campus.
A food tasting will be presented by chefs from restaurants including Roy’s Waikoloa Bar & Grill, Merriman’s Market Cafe, Ruth’s Chris Steak House, Romano’s Macaroni Grill, Lava Lava Beach Club, Kamuela Provision Co., Makalii Catering, Tommy Bahama and Hawaii Calls Restaurant.
Hawaii Community College-West Hawaii pastry class students will offer desserts. Wine and beer will be available for purchase. The event will also feature live music and a silent auction.
Tickets are $30 per person. For an additional $20, the public may attend a cooking demonstration with Chef Ippy Aiona at 4 p.m. Space is limited.
