Benjamin “Uncle Benny” Cariaga Sr., 88, of Waimea died Jan. 10, 2013 at North Hawaii Community Hospital. He was born Jan. 5, 1925 in Niulii, North Kohala. He was a retired agronomist for Parker Ranch and a trombone player in the West Hawaii County Band. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Waimea 1st Ward.

Visitation begins at 8 a.m. Jan. 19 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Waimea with funeral service at 11 a.m.; cremation follows at Dodo Mortuary. Casual attire.

He is survived by sons, Ben (Heidie) Cariaga Jr. of Kona, Nathan (Jane) Cariaga of Keaau and Clinton (Denaise) Cariaga of Waimea; daughters, Kim (Nathan Nobriga) Cariaga of Waikoloa and Michelle (Doyle) Domingo of Waimea; brothers, Mariano (Ethel) Carriaga, Sr. of Hilo and John (Pat) Macayan of Hilo; sister, Rosita Padilla of Hilo; sisters-in-law, Annie Ladd of Waimea, Benita Ninio of Waimea and Beatrice Macayan of Hilo; 18 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
