A high surf advisory for the Big Island’s north-, east- and south-facing shores remains in effect until 6 p.m. today, according to the National Weather Service in Honolulu.
Waves are forecast to range in height from 6 to 8 feet with 7- to 10-foot waves possible, according to the service. The service also warned that the impact could be greater along windward coasts because an extreme high tide was expected early today.
A high surf advisory means waves along affected shores will be higher than normal, and dangerous rip currents are expected. The service said the surf’s impact should be moderate and urges beachgoers, swimmers and surfers to exercise caution and heed advice given by ocean safety officials.
