Gilbert Silva

Gilbert L. Silva, 84, of Keaau died Dec. 29, 2012, at Hilo Medical Center. Born Dec. 7, 1928, in Laupahoehoe, he was a retired mechanic for the County of Hawaii in Puna, a rancher and member of St. Theresa Catholic Church in Mountain View and an Army veteran.

Friends may call at 5 p.m. Jan. 14 at Dodo Mortuary chapel for a 6 p.m. wake service. Friends may call at 9 a.m. Jan. 15 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hilo for a 10:30 a.m. Mass. Burial is at Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2. Family requests casual attire be worn.

He is survived by wife, Janet Silva of Keaau; sons, Jeffery (Rochelle) Silva, Bruce (Jennifer) Silva and Bradley Silva, all of Keaau, Mark (Davieanna Mercado) Silva of Mountain View; sister, Mae Gomes of Kona; brother, Robert (Terry) Silva of California; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
