Eric T. Dietz, 29, of no permanent address, was last seen around 2:40 p.m. Sunday swimming in rough waters off the lower Puna beach, according to the Hawaii Police Department. He apparently experienced difficulties returning to shore.
A bodyboarder managed to get within reach of Dietz but lost sight of him after being caught in rough surf, according to police, who noted the bodyboarder made it to shore safely.
Dietz, also known as “Eroz” and “Arrows,” is described as Caucasian, about 5 feet 11 inches tall, weighing about 150 pounds with hazel eyes and brown hair, according to police. He has facial hair and a multi-colored tattoo on his upper right arm depicting a bird, spider and tortoise shell.
