Firefighters Tuesday afternoon doused a flare-up in the remnants of a 5-acre brush fire that broke out Saturday in Kailua-Kona.
Crews responded to the 12:15 p.m. report of smoke and quickly doused the hotspot within the fire site located mauka of Kuakini Highway and north of Oni Oni Street. No structures were threatened.
The fire broke out shortly before 4 p.m. Saturday in dead trees and grass near the Kona Hillcrest subdivision, according to the Hawaii Fire Department.
