N. Kohala library offers talk story history programs
North Kohala Public Library in Kapaau will present a series of talk story sessions with historian Boyd D. Bond beginning with “Hawaii’s Natural History” on Monday.
The second presentation, “Changing Land Tenure in the Hawaiian Kingdom,” is planned Feb. 11. The final program is slated March 11 and focuses on the life of Walter Murray Gibson, a prominent figure during the reign of King Kalakaua.
Each hourlong presentation begins at 6:30 p.m.
Bond is a descendant of early Western settlers in Hawaii. About history, Bond said, “I can’t ever remember a time when I wasn’t immersed in it. Many of the stories of Hawaii’s history are also our family stories.”
