A wind advisory for the lower slopes of the Big Island is still in effect, according to the National Weather Service.

A strong high pressure northeast of the state is continuing to bring advisory-level winds to the Big Island. These gusty 25 to 45 mph east winds will likely diminish gradually by Tuesday, stated the weather message issued Sunday by the service’s Honolulu Forecast Office.

Winds this strong can bring down tree branches, produce local power outages and make driving difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles. Motorists should use extra caution while driving.
