Strong trade winds will keep surf very rough and exceeding advisory levels along the Big Island’s east-facing shores, according to the National Weather Service.
A high surf advisory is now in effect until 6 p.m. Monday. Surf is anticipated to be 7 to 10 feet along the affected coastlines, stated the coastal hazard message issued Sunday by the service’s Honolulu Forecast Office.
The public can expect strong breaking waves, shore break, and strong long shore and rip currents — all making swimming difficult and dangerous. Beach-goers, swimmers and surfers should heed all advice given by ocean safety officials and exercise caution.
“Know your limits. When in doubt, do not go out,” the service stated.
