Local artist offering class in 2D design
Local artist Glenn M. Yamanoha will be teaching an art class at the University of Hawaii Center West Hawaii/Hawaii Community College located in Kealakekua starting Jan. 10. The class will meet from 4:30 to 9:30 p.m. Thursdays, Jan. 10 through May 9. The class is open to the public.
Yamanoha is an accomplished painter/printmaker. Born and raised on the North Shore of Oahu, he currently lives in Volcano. He graduated from the University of Washington, Seattle Art Institute and Kyoto University of Arts. His honors include a Monbusho Grant from the Japanese government and an artists’ fellowship from the Hawaii State Foundation on Culture and the Arts. He exhibits regularly on the mainland, in Japan and Hawaii, including the Dovetail Gallery in Holualoa. His paintings are also featured at the Hawaii State Art Museum.

Lahaina Galleries
hosts holiday show
Lahaina Galleries at the Shops at Mauna Lani is hosting a multiartist holiday show featuring Andrea Razzauti, Holly Young and Darrell Hill from 6:30 to 9 p.m. today.
The Orchestra of the Hawaiian Islands guitar duo, Phillip Simmons and Lee Eisenstein, will entertain from 7 to 8 p.m. Call 885-7244 for details and to reserved a space.
Firehouse Gallery presents Will’s work
The Firehouse Gallery in Waimea will present a solo exhibit of the unique art of Collie Will from Wednesday to Jan. 26. A public reception is planned from 3 to 5 p.m. Jan. 12 at the gallery.
Will grew up on a dairy and chicken farm in upstate New York. Her family moved to Utah, where her father was an airport manager, when she was 15; she learned to fly before she learned to drive.
She realized she was in love with art while in the first grade, and often drew things for her classmates. She took art classes in high school and college and while working as an educator in Alaska. She joined the Kona Arts Center after moving to Hawaii in 1991 and began painting in earnest. Will paints in watercolor, acrylic, oil and has even painted using coffee as a medium.
“Art, to me, is my release from the cares of the world and it is the means of expressing my feelings about the world around me,” Will said. “I paint parrots and other birds quite often. I have a parrot and am fascinated by birds, and all their mannerisms. I also paint flowers and marine life and all the wonderful things Hawaii has to offer. If I don’t have my painting time I feel like something is missing in my life.”
The Firehouse Gallery is located at the crossroads of Mamalahoa Highway and Lindsey Road in Waimea. The gallery is open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday. Parking is available behind the gallery.
