On Dec. 9, the 40th annual Honolulu Marathon took place on Oahu.

Jason Braswell, the first Big Island finisher with a time of 2 hours, 43 minutes, 10 seconds, placed 42nd overall. Thomas Vonach finished second for the Big Island at 2:48:58; Sal Salmi was third with a total time of 2:49:23.

Congratulations to all who raced in the Honolulu Marathon. It is a true accomplishment.

The Hawaii Swimming Age Group Short Course Championships took place Dec. 14-17 on Oahu. Both the Kona Aquatics and the Kona Dolphins sent swimmers of all ages to the championships and did very well.

Congratulations to all the swimmers who competed in this year’s age group short course championships.

This Saturday, the Kealakehe High School Waverider Triathlon Club will host its Survive the End of the World 10K Run at 7 a.m. at Kahaluu Beach Park.

The 6.2-mile course will take runners from Kahaluu to the “End of the World” at the end of Alii Drive and back to the finish at Kahaluu. Please note that the course is open to all traffic. Signups will take place prior to the race start if you have not registered already.

A postrace gathering will include a raffle for prizes and refreshments, and participants will receive an “I Survived the End of the World” finisher T-shirt.

This is a fundraiser for the Waverider Triathlon Club, and proceeds will help the students continue to train and race together. The entry fee is $30.

On Dec. 23, Team Mango Races will host its Journey-2-Lala Land. The 17-mile bike/run course, which includes grades of up to 22 percent, will challenge cyclists and runners.

The race will start at the Chevron gas station on Lako Street and finish near the top of Kaloko Road. Runners will begin at 6 a.m., and cyclists will start at 8 a.m. There is a small fee for this race. For more information, please visit teammangoraces.com.

Bring out your red and green on Dec. 23 for the eighth annual Jingle Bell Beach Run at Kailua Pier.

This race, which starts at 7:30 a.m., includes a 3.1-mile run and a one-mile run/walk. A fun race for the whole family, this is a free community event and open to all.
