The Hawaii Fire Department is warning the public of a possible scam in which an organization attempts to solicit monetary donations to assist firefighters and emergency medical technicians.
Chief Darren Rosario said the organization goes by the name “FAR” or Firefighters and First Responders and has been contacting people, including retired fire personnel, to solicit donations for firefighters and EMTs.
The contact number given is an out-of-state telephone number that is not in service, according to Rosario. The caller claims that the Hawaii Fire Department and its union, the Hawaii Fire Fighters Association, supports this organization and their efforts to raise money, which Rosario said is false.
Rosario further said the department and union have no knowledge of the organization and believe it is scam.
Police did not respond for further information.
