The fire was declared contained early this morning after igniting about 9:30 p.m. Wednesday in a pasture located on the makai side of Highway 11, near mile marker 63, according to the Hawaii Fire Department. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Firefighters will be working throughout the day dousing flare-ups and hot spots, according to the department. Motorists are advised to use caution in the area because crews remain on the scene.
