Holiday concert planned for Dec. 16
The Kona Music Society presents “Joy to the World,” an annual community concert featuring holiday songs from around the world, at 4 p.m. Dec. 16 at the Old Kona Airport Park pavilion. Admission is free; no tickets are required. A collection will be taken to offset the costs of the performance.

Printmakers present ‘Lei of Diversity’
The Fairmont Orchid, Hawaii and the Pacific Island Printmakers will present their fifth annual exhibition of “Lei of Diversity.” Artists will display works focusing on the cultural and environmental diversity of the Hawaiian Islands. The artists’ images reflect the daily inspiration offered by their lives in the islands, and draw on the historical roots of printmaking as a medium for communication and storytelling.
The Pacific Island Printmakers’ mission is to support printmaking as a vehicle for artistic expression, to foster collaboration and to stimulate members in exploring new arenas. Members include Kathy Molina, John McCaskill, Margaret Barnaby, Nora Yamanoha, Lisa Adams and Andrea Pro.
The public is invited to an artists’ reception Thursday at the Luana Lounge at the hotel. The exhibit runs through March 10.

Kamuela Philharmonic in concert Dec. 15
The Kamuela Philharmonic Orchestra will be in concert at 7 p.m. Dec. 15 on the luau grounds of the Hilton Waikoloa Village. The orchestra will perform Arcangelo Corelli’s “Christmas Concerto,” “Winter” from Antonio Vivaldi’s “The Four Seasons” and arrangements of favorite Christmas carols, as well as selections from Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s “The Nutcracker.”
Admission is free. Validated parking is available to audience members for $5. Complimentary coffee will be served.
The help of benefactors such as Hilton Waikoloa Village has made it possible for the orchestra to continue its mission of providing the community with affordable concerts of quality orchestral music.
The orchestra promotes local music education and introduces music to diverse audiences. The group is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit; any contributions collected at concerts, or through kamuelaphil.com may be tax deductible.
Holiday concert Saturday at KMC
Kilauea Drama and Entertainment Network presents the Volcano Festival Chorus performing “Comfort and Joy” at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Kilauea Theatre on the Kilauea Military Camp.
Holiday selections to be performed include “Rise Up and Follow That Star” by Lloyd Larson, “Hush My Babe” by Cynthia Gray and “Wishes and Candles” by Stephen Paulus. The choir will also sing familiar favorites, such as Larry Shackley’s “Angels Sing Glory” and Patrick Liebergen’s “Oh Come to the Manger.”
The chorus is directed by Roch Jones; Cinnie Decker provides accompaniment.
Admission is free, but donations will be accepted.
Local poetry, prose Saturday at Living Arts
The Living Arts Gallery in Hawi will host writers from the community reading their unpublished works in a salon-style setting beginning at 7 p.m. Saturday.
Warren Vignato will share his poetry, which explores the realm of human experiences.
